Dr Ayling (USA) is an associate professor at the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology and the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), and the Director of UNR’s Great Basin Center for Geothermal Energy. She joined UNR after working at Geoscience Australia, the Australian Government’s geoscience agency, and the Energy and Geoscience Institute at the University of Utah. Her research interests centre on improving exploration workflows for hidden geothermal systems, resource conceptual modelling, and reservoir characterization of hydrothermal and engineered geothermal systems. She is currently a member of the Earth Resources standing committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and was elected to serve on the Boardof Directors for the International Geothermal Association for a 3 year term (beginning in May 2020). Dr Ayling holds a BSc (Hons) from Victoria University of Wellington, and a PhD in environmental geochemistry from the Australian National University.
