The 2024 Geothermal Rising Conference was held in Hawaii this month.

Our team presented four papers, which you can access through our knowledge hub:

The Superhot Opportunity for New Zealand - Joining the Ends Together

I. Chambefort, A.Heuser, M. Palmer, D. Rybalka, C. Bromley, B. Carey

The paper investigates the potential of supercritical geothermal and summarises two important assessments for New Zealand: (i) a superhot resource inventory, and (ii) economic modelling of the opportunity.

The Waiwhatu Project: Developing Shared Language

A. Blair, A. Campbell, M. Climo, P. Siratovich, U. Fairhall, C. Ruha

The paper showcases the Waiwhatu Project and the process used to create five new kupu (words) in Te Reo Māori (Māori language) relating to geothermal.

Fracture permeability in basement greywacke for supercritical geothermal drilling planning

S. Milicich, C. Massiot, I. Chambefort, D. Satya

The paper assesses fracture characteristics and permeability as a function of greywacke rock types, interpreted from a borehole resistivity image and complemented by structural information from outcrops that are not hydrothermally altered.

Characterization of core from a New Zealand geothermal field and its reaction to receiving CO2 rich injection fluids

E. Kaya et al

The paper identifies favourable fluid-rock interactions and trapping mechanisms that govern CO2 entrapment.
