In September 2024, Peter Rendel and Lucjan Sajkowski from the Hydrothermal Systems and Mineral Team at GNS Science (and members of the GNG research team) were invited to Jilin University in China, where they delivered keynote presentations at the plenary session of the International Workshop on Hot Dry Rock and Supercritical Geothermal Resources.
The presentation topics were on:
The conference, held in Changchun, attracted around 200 participants, both international and national, including representatives from leading Chinese academic institutions, government research institutes, and the geothermal industry. During the event, Peter and Lucjan actively participated in discussion groups focused on strengthening geothermal research collaborations with Chinese academic institutions.
Following the conference, they were invited to give a seminar at Jilin University's College of New Energy and Environment. They also visited the university's Key Laboratory of Groundwater Resources and Environment, led by Professor Tianfu Xu, who hosted their visit. This visit marks the beginning of a new pathway for collaboration between New Zealand and China in the geothermal space, paving the way for both academic partnerships and potential projects for GNS Science.
