Iceland researchers are developing a carbon capture and injection technology which imitates the natural underground process where gases are turned into rock – only they have sped up what is naturally a very slow process.

In this short video, Hólmfríður Sigurðardóttir (Reykjavik Energy, Iceland) shares her thoughts on the similarities between New Zealand and Iceland as both nations harness their abundant geothermal energy resources.

Her three key takeaways:

  1. Listen to the next generation and invest to act for a green future
  2. Carbon reduction is possible, the decision to proceed requires leadership
  3. Set the bar high – aim for carbon negative!

This video was shared during a keynote presentation at the 2020 NZ Geothermal Workshop, and is shared here with permission.
